VE Commodore O2 Troubleshooting
This VE Commodore has been recently purchased with a promise that the check engine light will be extinguished by replacing the O2 sensors installed by the seller.
Guess what? Yup, the check engine light is still on! How do you test an O2 sensor? Do you replace 1 or all of them? Is cheaper better?

    Tie rod is fine, just knit picking wear & tear, never take my car to mechanics, they just pick a car to pieces, safety is one thing, drawing up a list of work that isn't necessary is another.

    • @MiracleMAX
      @MiracleMAX 6 дней назад

      Glen you are certainly welcome to your opinion. Personally, I pride myself in my reputation. I tell customers the reason for my suggestions. For example, if the tie rod boots are split, this will create wear of the ball joint located inside as grease is expelled and dirt enters the joint. Once this happens, the wheel alignment will be incorrect, creating excess tyre wear. This then becomes a safety issue as well as wasted money replacing tyres that could have lasted longer. This is preventive maintenance. Obviously this will not happen overnight, so giving the customer an idea of a timeframe is helpful. Notice in the video I stated that the split boot was not a safety issue at that point. But I agree, some mechanics will try and make a money grab at whatever they can find. Thanks for your comment.

    My experience is to always use Bosch O2 sensors on Commodores. There is also a tech bulletin for a fault with the o2 harness on VE where water from the AC drain works its way along the harness into the post cat bank 2 sensor plug causing heater circuit issues. The fix is to unwrap the harness tape and separate out the o2 wires from the trans loom and then make the break out earlier in the harness. Rewrap the harness. Reroute the harness to run along the transmission a bit more further back. This puts it away from the drain. This is also relative to 06/07 VZ as well.

      I have heard that Bosch is the best choice. Will keep that in mind for next time. Good information. Do you know the TSB number? Perfect timing. I am doing this exact fault finding today don't know what brand of O2 sensors are in but like this instance, these were recently replaced too. But I will give these parts the benefit of the doubt because the terminals were pushed into the housings as well. Also, on the right poz1 post O2 sensor there were two severed wires within the sleeve. One on the heater and the other on the sense wire. I can't see how this has happened as there is no obvious damage on the sleeve. Looks like they have been cut with side cutters but must have been squashed and cut that way. The engine has apparently been replaced recently too. Me thinks a Weeties packet mechanic backyarder did an engine swap and crushed bits n pieces inducing problems. The truth may have been told to me but not the whole truth. Gunna take it for a good flog up the road tomorrow with me G-Scan2 and see if it all works as it should and with no codes. I've often found getting good reliable info/ feedback from the owners that play a little to be almost impossible. They don't like to admit to playing with stuff they don't understand. Like I say to them "A little knowledge can be dangerous" and leave it at that for their own interpretation.

      Fair comment about a mask, but in reality, she usually turns up for the intro and outro & leaves all the work for me! It's great that she wants to be involved. She is in a few later ones with my brother-in-law. It's a real family affair! 😁

    Great video mate, wish i found it before i replaced my original BA Single Zone unit with BF Fairmont Dual Zone, so far every thing works great and with that i proved my mates wrong who were telling me that it couldn't be done. Any way i wanted to ask you if it is possible to get the reverse camera connected to the unit so the display shows on the units LCD. Cheers mate.

    Can glow plugs throw up the dpf light? My dpf light has came on intermittently this week I've ran it twice decent runs between 2500/3000 and at times it's went off but then came back om no other issues such as limp mode etc It was off yesterday but took it to someone I know with a good code reader, nothing dpf related flagged up but 2 glow plugs and something to do with climate control did, reckon thats cause I've no had it regassed Dpf light came back on there so just wondering what it could be if a reader isn't bringing anything up?

    • @MiracleMAX
      @MiracleMAX 23 дня назад

      It would be unusual for DPF related faults to be connected to glow plugs as they only work during cold conditions on start up. It would be best to get a quality scan tool for fault codes as well as live data.

    • @martin494563
      @martin494563 23 дня назад

      @MiracleMAX I know someone who had a real good quality scan tool and he plugged it in but no dpf issues came up, the light was off at the time but has came on again and I'm panicking ha love the car and not in a postion for it to die, is there a separate scan tool for a dpf then or should a normal one bring it up? Just asked on another form and someone said the glow plugs are part of the regen process? As I say the tool the guy I knew used was a good quality one as used to work om cars himself so I thought that would've threw up something if dpf was acting up gonna run it to a garage tomorrow after work

    • @MiracleMAX
      @MiracleMAX 23 дня назад

      @@martin494563 The glow plugs are not part of the regen process. I suggest looking at live data for soot accumulation as well as differential pressures

    • @MiracleMAX
      @MiracleMAX Месяц назад

      Yes, I used the crank bolt to turn the engine. It's only a manual gearbox that you would have to put it in neutral to turn as the transmission is not directly mechanically connected to the engine with an automatic.
